About
Evolution Geological was founded by Simon McCurdy, an extractive industry geologist who worked in the industry for nearly 20 years, rapidly climbing the corporate ladder to senior geological management positions. He has been responsible for services to operational quarrying sites across much of the UK as well as international operations across Europe, the Middle and Far East, notably significant businesses in France, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Turkey, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and China.
Simon is very experienced in large scale quarrying operations, having been responsible for geology and quarry design at numerous "super quarry" sites with outputs up to 10 million tonnes per annum. He has experience in quarrying for aggregates, industrial sands, brick clays, lime, cement and chemical limestones.
Simon is a Chartered Geologist (Geological Society of London) and European Geologist (European Federation of Geologists) and also attained the accreditation of MIQ (Member of the Institute of Quarrying). He sits on the European Federation of Geologist's "Panel of Experts - Minerals", and has also been Director and is the current Chair of Extractive Industry Geology Conferences Ltd, which organises a very successful programme of biennial conferences and one-day training events.
He graduated from Camborne School of Mines with a first degree in Industrial Geology, which he followed up with a Masters in Industrial Minerals at the University of Leicester. He has since worked for Tarmac, Hanson, and parent companies Anglo American, Lafarge and CRH.
